Just discovered this website, thanks to all who have contributed. I plan to visit Saumur in October and hope to take my son to visit the old Troop Support Area.
I served in Saumur form 1961-64, first assigned to the Signal Depot before transferring the Medical Dispensary (upgraded to General Hospital).

I haven’t visited the site for awhile. My Dad, Jack Sr., was stationed there from 1959-1963. It was my 5-8 grades. This summer my wife and I are visiting Saumur and I hope to have the chance to visit the base, the housing area and the operations area.

I was in Saumur from July 1962- December 1963. I was in the 532nd Signal Platoon. 1st Lt. Baxter was in charge. My sergeant was Papa Moore, we traveled all throughout southeastern France fixing lines, poles, and cables. Have not heard from any of my friends. Email me at [email protected] for further questions.

My dad was the liaison officer to the French Cavalry School from 1953 to 1957. I accompanied him along with Mom and my younger sister. We lived in the town and I attended the St Louis school for the three years I was there. While waiting for Dad’s orders to return to the States, I attended the school at the Depot for several weeks. Our house was along the river road just past the Catholic girls school. There was a large sandbar and dredging operation a couple of hundred yards further down the street from us. We had a fairly large three-story home with a garden and large front and back yards surrounded by a stone wall and gate. Behind our property was a small treed hill. Crossing the small knee-high wall at the back led to some winery caves up the hill. Also stayed at the Budin when we first arrived and for a short time before we left. Thanks foe the trip down memory lane. Love the photos.

The memories of Samir are still special to me. I’d like to go back there but my wife does not I guess there my memories thanks for keeping this site alive

My name is Melissa Groelle and I am Ed Groelle’s daughter. Sadly, dad passed away last Saturday, July 14, 2018. He was the proud creator of this Saumur Signal Depot web site. For those wishing to view his obituary, I'm sending reference links:

Haven't visited the web site for a while, but it is still a pleasure to remember the good times we had in Saumur and the whole of Southeastern France.
I would certainly like to hear from some of the men I served with in the 532nd Signal Platoon W/C

My father was master Seargent Lloyd (bill) Hughes. Our family was stationed at Saumur from the fall of 1960 through 1963. I was only a newborn at the time but last summer I had the chance to visit the old signal depot and got to take a tour of the place the Officers Club is now a Day Care center and has been combined with the bowling alley. I would be happy to share photos or discuss my visit if anyone has interest you can email me. Would love to hear any stories from anyone who might have known my dad.
